Interior Design Tips – Raising Sales Count Using Product Arrangement and Shelving

When doing Interior Design for a store, having many products in a shop is unavoidable for a successful business. Unfortunately, with more products, the risk of cluttering will also become bigger. So this is where we use shelving to arrange our products. In addition to saving space and enhance store decor, arranging our products in the shelving will also make the products we sell look nicer and more organized, thus raising the chance of people buying our products. Different product need different type of shelving in order to maximize their appearance. This is why so many types of shelves are created. In this article, we’ll discuss about each of the popular type of shelves, how to best put it in a shop, and the products best displayed using that type of shelf.

Types of Shelf and Appropriate Products to Display:

1. Glass

One of the most popular type of shelving for a Store Interior Design is a glass shelves. Glass shelves can give you a bright and clean look, and using large quantity of glass shelves and cases can create some sort of crystal-like environment when seen from the eye of customers. The colors that got refracted by the glass shelves and cases will also make the displayed products seem more appealing. Therefore, store owners who like their merchandise to really be seen will usually prefer using a Glass Shelf to display their products.

However, there are a few disadvantages when using this type of shelves. Glass shelves and cases are easily stained by fingerprints and smudges. When this happens, then not only it will not make the store look beautiful,  it will even make the customer who see it feel that your products are unclean and of low quality. For an Interior Design decor, this is a double-edge sword, where if you use them correctly, it will boost your sales and even create a uniqueness for your store, and if you use them incorrectly, it will only lessen your sales and reputation.

These type of shelves and decor are best used for gift items, dishware and other small or delicate inventory. Glass shelves also often paired with small uplight around the displayed product to enhance the refraction effect, making the it seems more beautiful.

2. Portable Shelving

There are 2 types of shelving in general: Permanent shelving and Portable Shelving. Portable shelving is how it sounds, a shelving that can be rearranged. While certain retail environments may rely on familiarity to help customers find the items they want, some shops, particularly the ones that deal with seasonal products or trending products, tend to change their inventory and display galleries. For these kind of stores, a portable shelving will be more beneficial than permanent shelving.

Another advantage of potable shelving is that you can easily rearrange them in such a way so that it can form a wall that can guide your customer throughout your store. This is very useful because when the season or the trend changes, the inventory also changed, and the size of the display products are also different, thus needed to be rearranged again.

Portable shelving is best used for stores that has inventories that must be frequently rotated like Gifts Store or Retail Store with seasonal products.

3. Modular Shelving

Another type of shelving is called Modular shelving. Modular shelves share vertical supports but feature shelf heights that are adjustable, enables the interior designer to use varying shelf heights to add interest to the displays. There are 2 types of Modular shelving: one that must be attached to the walls to be able to function, and another that can stand by itself. Modular Shelves are often made from wood or coated metal.

These shelves are often used in various type of stores, including but not limited to: textile shop, industrial shop (particularly for tools, outdoor gear, sporting goods and other rugged items), some display items in book store, and even just for some random decorations for a store.
